![]() Yes, perhaps you and I have regrets, deep wounds and failures. You cannot press into tomorrow if you are always dwelling on what happened yesterday. You cannot go forward very easily if your eyes are always looking back and your head is turned behind you. His words ring true and they are words of wisdom. ![]() That prize is the only thing he is reaching for, the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. His very words tell the Phillipians that there’s a mark, a target that he has his eye on. Paul gives instruction to the Phillipians by example of his own life motto and encourages them to forget the things which are behind and reach for things to come. The way that he sees himself as one who is not held back, has everything to do with how he will approach what is ahead of him in life. He has a determination and a goal that will not sway him. His point of view about himself is very clear. He does not see himself as ‘held back” or apprehended, as he says. In just this one verse, the apostle Paul is giving us lessons to live by. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
